We say "I struggle with fear of man," or "He struggles with love of money," etc. But the "truer" sense is that I struggle with fear of man INSTEAD OF fearing God, or he struggles with love of money INSTEAD OF loving God. Phrased in this way, I have hope for a solution. The solution is worked out in my relationship to God and my sin against him. We don't just stop feeding/worshiping/loving/fearing our idols, we have something to do instead-worship, love, fear, trust God.<br />So the rich young ruler trusted/loved/worshiped his stuff instead of God. Because he didn't love God, he didn't and couldn't love his neighbor. And I think you're right, Amie, that it does level the playing field. At the bottom, we are worshiping our idols (whatever they may be) instead of God. So what we're lacking is the part that follows the INSTEAD OF- the loving/fearing/trusting/ of God in those areas. (There's my 2 cents for the day...ok more like 5 cents...sorry sooo long)Rondahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01733737881940918092noreply@blogger.com
